Chiropractic care during pregnancy helps women stay as healthy as possible and has been shown to be a safe and effective treatment for bodily pain throughout pregnancy. However, the most important aspect of getting checked regularly by a chiropractor during pregnancy is to ensure the pelvis is sitting correctly and allows optimal room for the baby to grow and move.
A well functioning nervous system (AKA getting adjusted regularly during pregnancy) can prevent:
-Mid-back pain due to increased breast size that is associated with shortness of breath, nausea, morning sickness and heartburn.
-Lower back pain due to decreased flexibility is associated with constipation, frequent urination, sciatica, and hemorrhoids.
-Pelvic pain due to the hormone Relaxin—allowing the pelvis to shift and open in preparation for childbirth—and is associated with pubic symphysis pain.
Studies have shown that over 50% of all women complain of low back pain during pregnancy and chiropractic has been shown to be safe for both mom and baby. Regular adjustments during pregnancy has been shown to decrease the need for pain-killers during delivery by 50%, decrease labor time in new mothers by 24%, and a reduction in labor time for experienced mothers by 39%!
In addition to physical adjustments, we also address the emotional health of mom-to-be. There are many emotional issues when preparing for birth such as:
- fears of the child’s safety once outside of the womb
- the effects of mom’s body “not being her own”
- fears of the pain associated with birth
- and many others
Emotional issues that are not dealt with can manifest physically as pain. These “emotional blockages” can show up as neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, or pelvic pain. Dr. Jessica performs a gentle, non-invasive technique called Neuro-Emotional Technique, where she “asks” the body what the issue is and how to resolve it, many times resulting in decreased pain
Chiropractic care is a safe, natural, and economical way to ensure the expectant mother and baby have the best possible birth.
“Jessica is AMAZING! I was referred to her by her awesome receptionist and fellow doula, Kristyn, and I’m so glad I went in! I’m 38 weeks pregnant and was experiencing some pain in my back and ribs and just was not comfortable at all! Not only did she do some energy work on me, but used some Webster techniques as well, and I walked out feeling incredible. For the first time in a long time I didn’t feel any pain or discomfort, was able to sleep well and felt totally revived and energized (something that is hard to do at 38 weeks!). I highly suggest her – feeling great!” -Veronica
